Being a content creator can get overwhelming, especially when you’re juggling content planning, scripting, editing, and securing brand deals. The good news is that there are so many amazing free resources out there that can make your life so much easier! Whether you're just starting out or are looking to upgrade your workflow, here are some of my favorite tools, broken down into four essential groups.
1. Content Planning
The first and most challenging step of any content creation is coming up with an idea. If you want to stay consistent and grow as a content creator you need to find the right content and time management tools that will help you stay on track. Keeping track of ideas, deadlines, and collaborations can feel chaotic without the right tools. Here are my go-to's for staying organized:
- Notion: Perfect for planning content calendars, tracking progress, and organizing notes. It’s super customizable and easy to use. If you are a complete beginner check out the blog post Lazy Girl's Guide To Using Notion.
- Asana: If you want a tool that has more structure to it and less customization then check out Asana. Ideal for task management and keeping your projects on track. You can assign tasks, set deadlines, and keep everything in one place.
- Google Calendar: A classic but essential tool for scheduling content, setting reminders, and planning collaborations. You can also use it to time block your day and keep extra organized when you need to shoot, edit, and post content.
2. Scripting/Writing
Want it or not, you will need to write short-form or long-form content. Writing captions, scripts, or blog posts can be daunting without a little help. Here are some free resources I swear by:
- ChatGPT: Great for brainstorming ideas, drafting scripts, or even finding inspiration when you’re stuck. There are a lot of prompts for content creation that ChatGPT can help you with.
- Gemini: An AI writing assistant similar to ChatGPT that helps improve clarity and style in your content.
- Grammarly: A must for checking grammar and spelling before hitting “post.” It’s a lifesaver when you’re writing longer captions or blog posts. It is also crucial if English is not your first language.
3. Content Editing
If you are creating Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube videos, then you need tools that can help you edit your content. Professional video editing tools can be quite expensive. But some great ones are free and easy to use on your phone or laptop. Your content needs to look polished and professional, and these tools can help you achieve that:
- CapCut: An easy-to-use video editing app with tons of features to make your videos pop.
- InShot: Great for video editing on the go, with options to trim, merge, and add music.
- Canva: My all-time favorite for creating graphics, thumbnails, and social media posts.
- Unsplash & Pexels: Free stock photo platforms that are perfect for finding high-quality images.
- Loom: Great for recording screen videos and quick tutorials.
4. Brand Deals
If you want to work with brands you need to keep some things in mind. Managing brand deals can be tricky, but having the right tools can make it much smoother. Here’s what I recommend:
- Stripe & PayPal: Safe and straightforward ways to receive payments from brand collaborations.
- Google Drive: Perfect for storing contracts, invoices, and campaign briefs.
- LinkedIn: A great platform to connect with brands and showcase your work.
- TikTok or Facebook Marketplace: Great for networking and finding potential brand collaborations.
Being a content creator doesn't have to mean spending a fortune on tools and resources. These free apps and platforms are game-changers when it comes to staying organized, creating quality content, and managing collaborations.
Let me know if you try any of them or if you have your own favorites that I should check out!
